As the northern sun refuses to set and the forests bathe in golden light, Finland welcomes the height of summer with warmth, tradition, and community. And this year, one of the most breathtaking places to experience this timeless celebration is at the top of Kivesvaara Hill in Paltamo, hosted by Arctic Giant / Jättiläisenmaa.
🔥 Midsummer Bonfire Lighting – June 20, 2025 at 6 PM
📍 Kivesvaarantie 40, 88300 Paltamo, Finland
A public event open to all, the Midsummer bonfire (juhannuskokko) will be lit (weather permitting) at 6:00 PM atop the hill – a place already steeped in natural beauty and mythical presence. The towering fire marks the symbolic heart of Finnish Midsummer: light, life, and shared moments under the endless sky.
🌿 An Evening in the Wild North – With Coffee, Views and Quiet Joy
The celebration takes place in the stunning wilderness of Jättiläisenmaa – Land of Giants – a destination known for its panoramic ridge views, peaceful nature trails, and poetic silence. On Midsummer’s Eve, the atmosphere turns festive yet gentle, with people gathering around the bonfire in a spirit of calm celebration.
Guests are invited to enjoy seasonal refreshments and summery treats from the Jättiläisenmaa summer café, which will be open until early evening. Whether you crave a locally brewed coffee, something sweet, or just the serenity of a hilltop view, the café offers a perfect complement to the experience.
🌞 The Midnight Sun: A Light That Never Leaves
In Finnish Lapland and northern regions, Midsummer coincides with the midnight sun – a time when daylight stretches late into the night, creating a glowing, dreamlike world. At Kivesvaara, you’ll see this phenomenon in all its glory: the sky never fully darkens, and the forest glows in shades of gold, green, and soft shadow.
☕ Practical Info – Café Opening Hours & Access
