Hossa – The National Park of Crystal-clear Lakes and Primeval Forests

Established in honor of Finland’s centenary, Hossa National Park, the country’s 40th national park, stands as a stunning tribute to untouched wilderness. Accessibility has been a priority in Hossa. Trails leading to sites like Muikkupuro shelter and Huosiuslampi are wheelchair-accessible, as are several lakeside piers. For paddlers, Hossa offers easy and safe routes such as the Iijärvi–Hossa and Julma-Ölkky–Hossa trails, with longer journeys like Peranka–Hossa and Hossa–Juntusranta for more seasoned adventurers.

Easy to reach

The most convenient way to reach Hossa is by car, although a bus service from Kuusamo operates during school days. Drivers should be aware that fuel stations are limited in the area, so it’s advisable to refuel before entering the park.

Unforgettable trails

For first-time visitors, the Hossa Visitor Centre provides an ideal starting point. Several trails depart from here, including the three-kilometer accessible loop around Huosiuslampi, the picturesque Muikkupuro path, and the demanding 10-kilometer Ölökyn Ähkäsy route with breathtaking views over Julma-Ölkky Gorge.

Mountain bikers will find four dedicated trails, ranging from the beginner-friendly Jatkonvalkea route to the challenging 50-kilometer "Blue Achievement" loop designed for experienced riders.
