
INARI VILLAGE, SIIDA & LAKE INARI CRUISE

The Sámi Museum and Nature Centre Siida is located in Inari village. Siida provides information on the ancient and vibrant Sámi culture and on arctic nature. If you are interested in the local culture Siida museum is a must to visit. The exhibitions will show how nature and people have adapted to extreme conditions of the Northern environment. Wonderful photos, videos, dioramas, soundcapes and original artefacts guide you through past and present time. All exhibitions are easy to follow and translated to several languages.
Sarrit restaurant can be found on the second floor of the building and you can have a lunch or coffee break there. First floor of the museum you can find a museum shop with souvenirs and handicrafts.
At 13:00 starts Lake Inari cruise. Famous Inari wilderness lake has 3.318 island and vast area of untouched nature. You will also pass by an ancient sacrificial site of the Inari Sámi called “Ukko” island or “Äijih”. Duration of the cruise is around 2 hrs and guidance in several languages is provided.
After the cruise you will have some free time to explore Inari village and it’s handicraft and souvenir shops. You can visit: Inari Silversmith, Sami Duodji, Näkkäläjärvi souvenirs, Samekki and Inari Handicraft shop and cafe. Don’t miss the Sámi parliament building and Sajos cultural centre.
